Golf in Andalusia has been a huge tourist attraction for years. With 120 golf courses, Andalusia boasts a wealth of courses for all skill levels.

Particularly the region around Málaga is well-known among golf players. Therefore, overcrowded courses are not at all surprising. But many people would rather play in a region that is mostly unaffected by mass tourism. We’ve got you covered!

Golfing between desert and sea

So it’s not surprising that neither expense nor effort has been spared in and around Almería since 2000 to get a generous share of the growing pie “Golf tourism in Andalusia”, too.

The golf courses in the province of Almería are still fairly new. Good for you, because most of them have been equipped with a few spectacular features to meet the demands of the modern golfer.

Almería: always worth a (golf) trip

As far as we are concerned, our region is always worth a (golf)trip. But we also know that it can get fairly warm during some seasons … So, those who have booked their tee time at first “cockcrow”, certainly can enjoy an early breakfast. This is definitely the perfect start to an active day …

The best time for golf in our region is from the end of September to the beginning of June. The months July and August are rather for the hard-boiled golfers, as there’s hardly any shade on the courses.

The top 3 golf courses around Mojácar

and a very special bonus:

Marina Golf – Mojácar, Almería

Ramón Espinosa designed this 18-hole golf course just a stone’s throw away from the beach: the course is just a 10-minute drive away from us. You’ll get to the course from the Mojácar centre in just five minutes. The golf club undergoes constant improvement and there is a multitude of breathtaking views along the entire course.

What makes this course so extraordinary is that the designer tailored the course exactly to the predominant landscape.

In a nod to its immediate vicinity to the beach and sea, the first 9 holes have been kept relatively flat. The other 9 holes are perched in the La Torre mountains in allusion to the mountains surrounding Mojácar. The course embodies a perfect symbiosis of the sea and the mountains – a typical characteristic of this area.

We’re going to let you in on a little insider’s tip: the tee from hole 4 is spectacular and differentiated in its design. As an additional service, the Golf Club Marina Golf also offers golf lessons either as group lessons or as personal lessons. To round off the golf lessons the Spanish way, a beer and tapa are included in the price …

Valle del Este – Vera, Almería

This golf course is situated a little outside in an area that has been specifically designed for golfers. The course was designed by Jose Canales in 2003 with the result that the 18-hole golf course is perfectly nestled in the desert-like landscape.

A missing sea view is duly offset by the breathtakingly beautiful view of the Sierra Cabrera, our “back garden” mountain range. The lush, evergreen golf course and the distinctive landscape of the Almería province create a fascinating contrast that is seldom found in Andalusia.

Naturally, this golf club also offers golf lessons … Twice a year, the Valle del Este Golf Academy also hosts the European Stack & Tilt Coaching Camps.

Desert Springs – Cuevas de Almanzora, Almería

The designer Peter McEvoy got his inspiration for the design of this 18-hole golf course from the famous desert golf courses in Arizona and California. This par 72 international championship course is the first-ever desert golf course in Europe. It has been built to full USGA specifications and the quality standards of these desert courses, which today are famous for the quality of golf they offer.

Over 600,000 cacti and other desert plants endow the course with a distinctive character. All fairways are nestled amidst massive rock spurs, arroyos, and dry river beds. The striking contrast of the desert and the emerald green fairways with the barren landscape of cacti, rocks, and flowering desert in the lap of a panorama of dramatic mountain ranges, is sensational at all times of the year.

This golf course is suitable for both beginners wanting to hone their game as well as for players with an impressive handicap wanting to rise to new challenges.

Needless to say, that this golf club, too, offers golf lessons – they even offer courses especially for women, too.

This golf course regularly hosts many golf tournaments. Amongst others, a tournament of the “European Tour Qualifying School” is carried out at the club. In 2019 the golf club hosted the end of the PGA EuroPro Tour Championship.

Aguilón Golf – Pulpí, Almería

Our bonus, the golf course Aguilón Golf, is a little further away. But it is well worth the approx. 40-minute drive.

“The best desert golf course in Europe” – that’s Aguilón Golf.

The spectacular 18-hole par 70 golf course offers a magnificent view of the Aguilón mountain backdrop and the Pulpí bay. It is located near Pulpí on the coast of Almería.

The varied course design poses a challenge for players of all levels. Over a hundred bunkers, six lakes and several natural gorges add to the extraordinary playing experience on this course.
