Hiking in Almeria – a perfect rest for body and soul
It’s spring and the weather immediately invites you to go hiking in Almeria. The international hiking fans gradually awaken from their wet, grey and dark countries. They pack their hiking boots and book a flight to sunny Andalusia.
After all, spring it too beautiful. Daytime temperatures are always approx. 20°C in the shadow, which means temperature in the sun are very pleasant. The sun definitely requires a good sun protection. Summer heat that nips each physical activity in the bud, is far away. Hiking in Almeria in this season is the best a hiking lover could ever imagine. Even in our desert climate the landscape thrives in rich, yellow, blue and lilac shades, apart from all the green winter brought us. Nature, at least in our region, is unspoilt, beautiful and very, very original.
Hiking in Almeria? Yes- but where exactly in the region of Mojácar?
Actually, it starts straight at our B&B, Cortijo El Sarmiento. The Sierra Cabrera, right behind our B&B, offers wonderful hiking opportunities. There are both flat and steep footpaths – whatever you like. At full moon, there is a guided night walk, serious, from 08.00 pm – 08.00 am with a shared breakfast in the end. At night, at 0.00 pm, we will enjoy a small snack along the way. Don’t forget, in Spain a small snack means 3 courses – simple, yet delicious and strengthening.
Furthermore, there are wonderful footpaths through Bedár, located just around the corner. One of them is the “Ruta de las minas”, the other the “Ruta del Agua” – both beautiful and versatile.
Of course there are wonderful hikes near the beach as well, for example the new footpath from Mojácar to Macenas. Sporty people can even extend it and make a hike through Sopalmo. A nice tour, that can be walked throughout the entire year.
Hiking the beaches and Sierras
On the beach you can walk for hours and hours, either on the endless beaches of Mojácar, or from Garrucha to Villaricos.
For good mountain walks we recommend the surrounding Sierras, the Sierra Nevada, Sierra de la Alhamilla, Sierra de los Filabres or the Sierra María – Los Velez, where you can also admire the original cave paintings of our monument “Indalo”.
You should definitely enjoy a hike in the neighboring Nature Park Cabo de Gata. Wonderful flora and fauna, coastal walks or the walk along the long forgotten gold mines starting at “Cortijo del Fraile” … ohhh more and more ideas come to my mind when writing this blog 🙂 .
