Dinner

Dining at Cortijo El Sarmiento is a culinary treat. We purchase fresh, locally produced, and seasonal ingredients from the various markets and suppliers in and around Mojácar.

Dinner at Cortijo El Sarmiento starts with an apéritif in the lounge at 20.00h. We have a wide selection of apéritifs and there’s always more than enough Cava. Evening drinks are served with complimentary nibbles.

During the summer months, we serve dinner at the poolside on our huge terrace. On a cooler evening, we would serve dinner in our beautiful dining room, and on a winter’s night, we would light the fire for a real homely atmosphere.

Important: In the hot months of July & August, we only offer our “Shared Platters” in the evenings.

Andalusian 3-course menu from our Cortijo kitchen

Upon sufficient demand, we serve our popular 3-course menu (of course with a little something, cause a good wine should always be accompanied by a delicious snack!)

We’ll sit comfortably on our large terrace in front of the main house, enjoy a good glass of Cava or any other apéritif, chat and laugh, and then we’ll move on to a finger-licking dinner!

Our dinner menu includes an appetizer, a starter, a main course, and dessert. The dishes are Spanish-Mediterranean-Style, packed with flavour, and produced with love in our kitchen at Cortijo El Sarmiento.

Of course, the menu is accompanied by our Wine List that helps showcase local wines from our province Almería, Andalusia as well as a selection of fine wines from all over Spain.

Not bookable in July and August.

A feast for the senses: Wine and food tasting

Alternatively, we offer our “Andalusian Tasting Night” at 20:00 h, where we serve lots of local delicacies accompanied by great wines from local wineries – all summed up with the expertise about food and wine from our Sommelière … me, Yvonne 🙂

This evening is all about the culinary treats, Andalusia has to offer! An evening after your heart’s delight with the highlights of the region and the wonderful delicacies that are produced here. You’ll have the opportunity to sample local specialties (we have a few personal favourites if you just try these …).

To introduce all goodies to you at least once – because there are plenty – every week, our offer varies a little. One week, we’ll focus on local wines, and another week on Andalusian sherry or our aromatic and sun-yellow olive oils which we produce in our province Almería.

That way, we keep things interesting, and guests who stay longer can always look forward to something new. You simply can’t afford to miss any of these tastings! This is a celebration of all Andalusian delights.

Not bookable in July and August.

Platos para compartir

Once a week, we offer “platos para compartir” – a typical Spanish way of dining, which translates as “plates to share”. There are a lot of Andalusian delicacies to enjoy here.

Choose your preferred meal time – we serve between 19:00 and 20:30 – and enjoy the wide selection of specialties either by the pool or in the dining room. And so you then enjoy little dinner between the two of you 😉

Good to know as well … 🙂

On request, we are also happy to offer wine or sherry tastings without a “supporting” program. And make sure you don’t miss tasting all those amazing olive oils – the liquid gold of Andalusia.

… and if you like, you can look over my shoulder while I prepare for our tasting evening, or join in, ask me loads of questions and learn everything you want to know about Andalusian food and dishes.

And on the days we do not serve any food, we are happy – as on any other day – to make a reservation for you at one of Mojácars’ great restaurants.

Due to the nature of serving a single dinner menu surprise, we are sorry that we are unable to cater for guests with a special diet. Please also note that nuts, wheat, lactose, and other potential allergens are regularly used in our kitchen and served on the breakfast buffet.

Wines – Andalusian delights the liquid way

The wines we have selected for Cortijo El Sarmiento are predominately from family-owned and small-yielding vineyards, located in the province of Almeria! So that’s even more Andalusian delights!

To complete the selection, we also offer a lot of fine wines from all over Spain!

We want to present our own region’s rich variety of produce & wines and so, in putting our wine list together, we have first selected wines that are from our own province.

We have personally visited the vineyards to taste the wine and meet the owners – we predominantly buy from small-yielding producers too and, although not widely known outside of Almeria, they represent a good selection of red, white, and rosé wines.

To make our selection complete and offer a larger variety of different grapes and styles of wine, we topped up the wine list with wines from all over Spain.

The same counts for our sparklings, where we love to introduce a really rare high-end sparkling wine from our region and a traditional Cava from Catalunya.

The majority of wines from our province are produced to be drunk whilst they are still relatively young, hence you will rarely see wines more than five years old. (Learn more about the wines from Almería in our blog …)

We appreciate that wine is often a matter of personal preference – however, when we present each evening’s menu, we are happy to recommend wines that, in our experience, pair with the dishes we serve that evening.

Asides from our wine list, we stock a wide selection of beers, soft drinks, and spirits for your enjoyment around the pool during the day and for aperitifs before dinner. Never to forget the digestif after dinner 🙂

We hope that you enjoy our wine selection!

By the way,

… with these offers, we follow the wonderful Sabores Almería initiative.

Translated, this means “The flavour of Almeria” or – if we change the spelling just a bit – we would put it: “Taste is Almeria!”. You get to celebrate Spanish food culture, music and the zest for life together with friends and guests.

We decided to follow suit – once a week at the Cortijo!

Look at this popular Sabores Almeria video on the right and you’ll immediately understand what it’s all about. (the main actor is David Bisbal, a famous Andalusian singer and TV-star with a love for his home and country.)

If you are interested in finding out how these evenings came about, (cause actually, we are a bed-and-breakfast), I’m happy to share the story with you, here on our blog.
